These wines are purchased directly, outside the 'Place de Bordeaux', so large savings are realized. It is rare to be able to buy this quality Bordeaux outside the 'négoce'. This usually saves 22% on purchasing.

Château Grand Launay 'Pour Amélie'

Pierre-Henri Cosyns makes more and more Bordeaux without sulphite. The more than successful cuvée 'pour Amélie' is one of them. Fine wine here in 2017. Strikingly color, but still no overextraction. Beautiful balanced wine with deep and fresh fruit notes. Berries and laurel. Mouthfilling and fine. I suspect this wine is better than the already excellent 2016!

Château Jean Faux

Pascal Colotte had just been included in 'Biodyvin' an elite club of biodynamic wine-growers. A happy person stood before me. He himself says that 2017 is the best wine he has ever made! He now also uses ultra low sulphite levels, which increases the wine in color intensity. The style is beautiful, beautiful red color, beautiful and expressive red fruit, suppleness and depth in the mouth really fine! Especially the beautiful, classic, dry tannins in the aftertaste were noticed. This is a beautiful glass.

Clos Puy Arnaud

Here the monarch struck and in two days minus nine Thierry Valette lost about 50% of his harvest. What remained was exceptionally beautiful. Because the wine has not yet been assembled, I can not give a definitive tasting note. But what I tasted was more than convincing. Beautiful dark color, partly due to the ultra low sulphite content. Followed by overwhelming deep fruit scents. Very cool merlot, and some barrels of cabernet-franc that make you uneasy, so good. I also approved his first wine 100% without sulphite, 1000 bottles are only there. What a great wine that is! The Grand Vin of this castle will be very good.

St-Estèphe .

Château Calon Segur

Director Vincent Millet compares 2017 with 2008 & 2012, but more precisely. Their 2017 'Grand Vin' is a stylish, almost feminine wine. Consciously, a high percentage of merlot was chosen. Beautiful dark color, deep and expressive aroma, baking red fruit and a touch of wood. Very elegant and deep, civilized, understated. The wine has a smooth core with subdued finesse.

Château Montrose

Again, people proceeded with the utmost caution, so no extraction took place. Montrose 2017 is very beautiful, deep dark red, almost sparkling. A very fruity fragrance, but also modest and tough in the mouth. This is the perfect example of working in vineyard and cellar. Superior style. The freshness also stands out in this wine. Magnificent.

Cos d'Estournel

At the door we were received by people in Indian clothing and on departure there was a game of curcuma for everyone, special! Here too, a finely-cut, hare female wine. Preahtig controlled and subdued. Deep red of keleur with an intense fruity aroma, ripe berries, laurel and a hint of smokiness. On the palate a very elegant, fine touch, followed by a restrained 'middle' and a tough aftertaste with dry tannins incorporated into the wine. Very nice.

Pauillac

Château Lynch Bages

This castle scored an outright 'hit' in 2017. Sparkling, dark, cherry red in color. The smell is mouth-watering. Deep and concentrated, ripe, clean fruit. Complex and old-fashioned. A superficial start in the mouth. Filling, strength, finesse, structure and length, a big classic Lynch Bages!

Château Pontet-Canet

This biodynamic working castle presented an exemplary 2017. Again a controlled, not too dark color followed by a beautiful, floral, ripe fragrance. Red fruit, berries, hint of wood, control and depth. Also in the mouth the same picture. Filling, complexity, depth and many smooth tannins. The finish is tougher with lots of dry, classic tannins. The wine now seems very closed but is the tip on the i of precision. Splendid wine. Only 50% new barrels here and 15% barrels of one year old. The rest of the wine ripens in large concrete cuves with a capacity of 900 liters. Fruit, control, class & finesse.

Château Pichon Lalande

After a sometimes difficult period, this castle is firmly back in the Pauillac summit. Their 2017 is exemplary and is one of the best wines of the year. Beautiful dark color, followed by a strikingly expressive aroma. Superb control and depth. Finesse and strength, what a hit of a wine! A smooth start in the mouth, but then the old-fashioned, restrained power comes back. Tough, dry, ripe tannins. A really great wine with great filling and concentration. Also the 'little chubby' that characterizes top wines. Superb!

Château Clerc Milon

For years one of the best wines from this municipality and also in 2017 again 'hit'. Controlled color extraction with a closed, finely concentrated scent. Ripe red fruit, berries, hint of fresh white pepper and wood. Beautiful touch in the mouth with classic Pauillac structure and depth. Very nice length with lots of old-fashioned tannins that are beautifully ripe and nicely integrated into the wine. A classy wine.

Château D'Armailhac

Also a very successful wine in 2017. Controlled color extraction followed by a deep and intense fruity aroma, elegance and nuance with a hint of fresh white pepper. In the mouth beautiful, supple with finesse and depth. Filling and class followed by a long finish full of tough tannins that appear perfectly in the wine. Very good!

Château Mouton Rothschild

A very strong wine was made here in 2017. Here too, not very dark in color, followed by a subdued but extraordinarily beautiful aroma. Complex, deep, beautifully clean fruit. In the mouth the same image, complex, restrained, classic, strength and flexibility. Filling and strength. A classic beauty with an old-fashioned, tough final.

Château Pedesclaux

This 'sleeping castle' was bought a few years ago by a successful broker. He sold his company right before 'the crisis' and invested money where his heart lay, in Rugby and wine. Pedesclaux is a top little castle with beautiful vineyards wedged between Clerc-Milon and Lafite, with plots near Mouton. No bad neighbors! The wines are made by Eric Boissenot and the castle is under the daily management of Emmanuel Cruse, see also d 'Issan. A more than convincing wine in 2017. Wonderful complexity and classic Pauillac. Deep color, powerful, fruit-borne aroma, depth. In the mouth tough, complex, beautiful polished tannins packed in the long aftertaste. A very stylish pauillac that I count to the finds of 2017.

St. Julien.

Château Ducru Beaucaillou

The location of the vineyards for the Grand Vin, very close to the river, was the protective factor in 2017. So no frost damage here. The Grand Vin is also a great wine. Deep dark red, a very concentrated aroma in which impressions of black olive and ripe berry fruit. It is a beautiful, aromatic wine. In the mouth still very closed but bursting with life force. It is an old-fashioned 'Vin de Garde' to wait a long time.

Château Leoville Poyferré

For the first time in a long time I also give a top rating to this wine because their 2017 may be! Beautiful dark in color. Large and concentrated aroma in which deep notes of ripe red fruit and berries. Also a nice dose of 'wood'. In the mouth a beautiful, ripe, complex, tough, classic wine. Structure and class.

Château Gruaud Larose

Also a nice result here with which the stable position of this castle is underlined again. Beautiful dark color, concentrated and fruit-borne aroma with fine wood impressions and depth. In the mouth a full, convincing attack with filling and finesse. The aftertaste is classic and sturdy with dry tannin that harmoniously appears in the wine. The ever-present 'peasantry' of Gruaud Larose is now also pleasant.

Château Beychevelle

The direct proximity of the river also brought salvation here against the killer frost. They made a very elegant, fine-tasting wine. Almost Burgundy in style. Sparkling red, with a subdued but very fruity aroma in which impressions of blackberries and red fruit. Beautiful and feminine in the mouth.

Château Gloria

A stable castle det actually always performs above its classification. In 2017 it was convincing again. A beautiful dark color followed by an intense and fruity flavor. Tap 'boers' and that makes the wine very charming. It is classic St. Julien with filling and strength. Fine dry tannins in the ripe aftertaste. Neat.

Château Leoville Lascases

The walled vineyard near the river was for this Château the protection against the frost. One made a topper of a wine that belonged to the best of St-Julien. Dark, cherry red color followed by a beautiful and very concentrated deep fruit aroma. Bramble, strawberry and cassis berries pass pleasantly sturdy and underpinned with fine wood tones. In the mouth this is not a small, very powerful, full attack with an aftertaste bursting with strength and depth caught in mountains away tannin. Big Stuff.

Margaux.

Château Palmer

A beautiful wine at the level of a 1st Grand Cru. Here, the pure progress of biodynamic work is optimally visible. In 2017, hundreds of meters of hedges were planted to accommodate insects and birds. In the cellar, only yeast, common to the grape, was used. Top-class wine. Beautiful dark color, super subdued, floral aroma. Elegant, deep red fruit, very modest. In the mouth still very closed, classic, restrained, beautiful filling and finesse. Classic, dry tannins. What a super wine! 'trés-trés Margaux'. Very limited delivery.

Alter Ego de Palmer

A superfree 2 nd wine here. Many Grand Vin does not reach this level. Dark cherry red in color, concentrated deep red fruit with a characteristic touch of 'straw air' so typical for Palmer. In the mouth o-so beautiful, concentrated and smooth. Beautiful depth and nuance, mouth filling and rich. Nice tough final.

Château Brane Cantenac

Here an almost Burgundian style wine was made, gossamer, elegant and feminine. Not too dark in color with a controlled, subdued aroma of ripe red fruit, berries and beautifully supported with wood. In the mouth also feminine and slim. Subdued, style & finesse. Very nice!

Château D'Issan

Under the energetic leadership of Emmanuel Cruse, solid wines are produced year after year. It is the oldest, entirely walled property in Bordeaux, in 1644. The other remaining walled vineyards are Latour, Leoville-Lascases and Calon Ségur. The new owner of Ch. Pédesclaux (see Pauillac) also bought 50% of d'Issan. A beautiful sparkling deep red color. Stylish, ripe red fruit and berries in the fragrance framed by elegant wood. Despite the high percentage of cabernet-sauvignon it has become a feminine, accessible wine 'trés Margaux' dry, but super elegant tannins, subdued, beautifully clean fruit and delicious 'fraîcheur'

Château Cantemerle

Excellent result again. Beautiful, dark color, beautifully deep fruity aroma followed by a beautiful, nuance rich onset in the mouth. The distinctive hint of 'boerheid' for Cantemerle also occurs in the wine in 2017. Very good and charming. Great price performance too.

Here, the organic method takes the wine to a higher level. 2017 La Lagune is a very expressive wine. Baking with red fruit, but also a hint of freshly cut red out. In the mouth it is a picture, beautiful control and filling. Full, tough aftertaste full of old-fashioned, dry tannins. Prima Bordeaux.

St-Emilion.

Château L'Angélus

As far as I am concerned, the best of the big names and the most convincing l 'Angélus in a long time. Hubert de Boüard has started working organically and that is reflected in the wine. Much more natural in style and lower in concentration & alcohol. Beautiful deep color due to a concentrated and deep fruity fragrance. Ripe red fruit, berries with an elegant wooden substructure. In the mouth a nearly perfect, polished style, almost voluptuous. Superb!

Pomerol.

Vieux Château Certan

Alexander Thienpont was in the best mood, and rightly so for what a beauty of a wine he made in 2017! He did not suffer any frost damage. His 'VCC' 2017 is a beautiful, floral wine with retained depth and lots of deep fruit notes of ripe red fruit, berries and some laurel. In the mouth an almost 'sultry' onset, beautiful nuance and depth. Also a delicious freshness that helps to form the wine, beautiful. Finesse, structure, filling, length. Trés Pomerol.

Château Rouget

Winery Antoine Ribeiro received me at this exceptionally beautiful castle. The immediate neighbors do not care, Clos de l'Eglise, Clinet, Feytit-Clinet and La Croix de Gay. Because the final assembly of 2017 was not ready we made a trip along the barrels. Here I was overwhelmed by the intense concentration of this variety Pomerol. What can you expect? A very deep color, followed by a lush and concentrated aroma. In the mouth it is the most full wine that I tasted in Pomerol. A 'meal in a bottle' this wine joins all top names with a powerful, very meaty, full, mouth-filling wine. But the price remains controlled.
